1) I think that computer-mediated research is a pretty broad term. In a sense it can be about researching communities online but it can also be research that happens but is not totally tied to an online space. For example, blogging captures research but is not often about what happens in an online space. It is just a place to house research.
With this in mind, though, it seems that research of online people and places has special ethical issues. What do we have a right to use when we can access almost anything? Do people understand that they are publishing in public even though a screen feels private?

2)I liked the language on the consent form. I noticed that you refer to us as consultants rather than subjects. It seems to give me more buy in as a research subject/participant. I did, though, find myself tempted not to read so much but to just sign and go. I thought reading about risks was pretty interesting and noted that educators and teachers were foregrounded.

It's summer and time for a new blog

Hi English 211ers and welcome to my blog. I hope you all will enjoy using blogs as much as I have and that you find it a useful area for working on writing, discussing course concepts, and experimenting with online identities.

Everyone in this class will be assigned to a writing and blogging group and will link directly to your partners' blogs and mine. In this space we will share essay topics and beginning arguments.

I can't wait to see what you folks come up with on your blogs.
